In July we went on vacation to South Dakota. I had been wanting to go to Mount Rushmore, and we finally made it. I made reservations for a cabin at the Flintstones camp ground.
We ate fruity pebbles for breakfast.
We went to Bear Country
Kyrie learned how to drive
and we ate Teddy Grahams - a very themed vacation!
*bear mood rings*
The next place we went to was the Cosmos. It was such a weird experience. Weird things happen, like water going up hill, balls rolling uphill and an strong invisible force of gravity that is messed up. I tried to figure it out and blame it all on optical illusion, but I can't figure it out!
Example 1: Chris was not holding Kyrie at this angle, it is the way her body naturally hung, instead of going straight down, the strong force made her hang like this.
Example 2: This building makes you lean forward. There are boards along all the sides of the walls to hang onto as you walk because the force is so strong you feel as if you are going to fall over.
Example 3: The front legs of this chair are in mid-air, yet the chair still does not fall forward.
Example 4: This one was so weird to me - I could lean forward and I could feel the force holding me up.
It was weird!
The kids got to look for geodes in the sand, and crack them to find the crystals inside.
The next day we went to Sylvan Lake - this was mine and Chris's favorite part of the whole trip. It was so gorgeous. We took a hike around the lake and it was perfect.
We couldn't get by without some of this!
After Sylvan Lake we went back to the campground and went swimming and then to the Flintstone themed park.
Mount Rockmore
Yaba Daba Doo!
And then that night we went to a magic show and Hayden got picked to help with a trick. (magicians always call on him and it makes Dusty so jealous!) It was an awesome show!
Kyrie, Camden and I woke up earlier that everyone else, so we would go for walks every morning and play on the playground.
the inside of the cabin
Here we are getting ready to leave the cabin. Kyrie had a little love affair with the cabin "KEVIN". Instead of it being a cabin, she knew it was a Kevin.
In the morning of our last day in South Dakota we played some miniature golf before heading to Mount Rushmore. Mount Rushmore really wasn't the highlight of the trip, but it is what got us to take a vacation to South Dakota. We had so much fun, I wouldn't mind going there again. South Dakota was so beautiful! We were able to do a lot of fun things and we really enjoyed our time together. Kyrie begged the whole way home to please go back to Kevin, "I want to go to the magic show again, I want to go back to Flintstones, I want to go back to Kevin, please can we go to Flintstones tomorrow". She repeated it over and over for several hours, and then continued some for a few days after we got home. I think she had a good time!
